Happy New Years - Resolution Time!
Ah, the new year is here - another “fresh beginning” to make promises that usually never get kept. Nevertheless here’s my (hopefully short) list of resolutions.
- Blog every day - this one shouldn’t be hard for me since I’m on the computer all the time, but I have problems with motivation.
- Write every day - my poor fiction has been at a standstill for way too long. However, I think I’m going to go the route of writing at least an hour a day and not releasing anything until I get the dang thing finished.
- Keep my house cleaner - housecleaning is not one of my favorite things to do…but with three boys the dang thing accumulates a lot of dirt. I need to get myself set into a habit of cleaning so it’s not such a big deal to do. Hey, if I taught myself to keep up with all the laundry these things make (about a load or two a day) I can train myself to clean.
- After number four is born (finally my girl) get the weight off - my heart and knees will thank me later, I’m aiming for a number range because I’m one of those “lucky” women who have a large (10-15 lb) water weight flucuation. Annoying.
- Get my junk up on ebay - I have doll stuff and other old toys that I want out of here
- Spend more time talking to my kids - this one is hard for me because I’m an entirely visual learner and not a people person. These two characteristics don’t dispose me toward talking very much. However, I had a great conversation with my oldest yesterday (teaching him about atoms and elements) and I remembered how hungry I was at that age for knowledge. Another thing I need to simply make a habit.
- Limit my time spent “screwing around” on the computer - I have plenty of useful things to be doing, so my generic screw around and surf needs to be curtailed or just cut off, I don’t have the time
- Manage my time better - I seem to have an easy time going into lala land and forgetting what I’m supposed to be doing. Also I stay up late doing stupid things and then can’t get up in the morning.
- Do some decorating and painting in the house - the upstairs is still that WONDERFUL shade of yellow, the boys still have crayon colored dressers, and the swingset needs the top half weather sealed now, I won’t be able to do a whole lot physically until May, but from then on I can make the house look nicer
- Get a roadmap (not timeline - code doesn’t conform to timelines any better than writing) up and running for kalfu, the goal is to get a release out the door ASAP before 5.1 starts gaining too much momentum
I’m pleased to see I don’t have as many “bad habits to break” as I do “good habits to make” - since creating a habit is a HECK of a lot easier than breaking a current habit. This past year I HAVE managed to teach myself to keep up with the laundry, get dinner on the table between 5:30 and 6:00, and have my morning routine with the kids in a good rhythm. I also did seal most of the swingset (until I ended up on my back for a few months with morning sickness) and the garden turned out nice - we’ll need a fungicide on everything this spring because the leaves didn’t get raked (kicks husband) - hey, I was on my back with morning sickness, dangit - and the peonies will have to wait until NEXT year to get split up but while I was well stuff got finished.
The bottom line is I’m certain I can get this list accomplished. I just need to stop sitting around and feeling bored, and start doing things even when I don’t feel like it.
Well folks, until tomorrow (see item #1) - Happy New Year and good luck with your own Resolutions.
